This is really clever and well executed. The composition is perfect with its swirling fabric and arcing figure both emanating from the corner. And the monochrome is just right. Color would risk detracting from its central theme. Super, Katherine! -- Joe.

This is a very clever painting Katherine. You have taken three simple elements – the drape, the figure and the negative space – and fooled us into thinking one thing, but…you keep looking and… there it is! Another point of view! I love this painting. Well done.

Artist's Description

This is a nude figure in an ambiguous setting; the androgynous figure is curled in the lower corner of the piece, with a billowing swirl of fabric held aloft by unseen means. This elegant composition has a simple beauty of form, but also draws the viewer in to question what they are seeing. Artist enhanced, hand-numbered and signed prints are available at my website, KatherineFernie.com.

I think Cleveland suits my temperament the best though I have high hopes for Boston. I have a teenage son who is always very encouraging and supportive of my artwork. I have been an artist since early childhood, but it was only once I was into my thirties that I realized that making...
